Inventing the future, together.

As Toyota accelerates its transformation into a mobility company, it is pursuing the realization of “Mobility 3.0”—its vision to build a mobility ecosystem integrated with cities and society.

However, the mobility society of the future cannot be built by Toyota alone. That is why Toyota Invention Partners (TIP) was created—to partner with those who share our vision and advance it together through investment.

For us, building partnerships goes beyond making investments.
We stand with companies that share our aspirations, working side by side in the Genba (the actual workplace/where value is created) as true partners to invent the future together. Unconstrained by short-term exits, we pursue long-term strategic investments with a decades-long perspective. This is our innovative approach to investment and co-creation.

It is by no means an easy path.
Every day, we grapple with questions that have no clear answers, working tirelessly out there in the Genba.
But that is precisely why we believe we can truly invent a future no one has ever seen.

To accelerate our efforts, we need your strengths and skills.
We look forward to welcoming those who share our determination and passion, and are eager to work alongside us as true teammates in shaping the future.

Our work

With the mission of realizing Mobility 3.0, we lead the entire process end-to-end—from sourcing and selecting next-generation partners to making investments and building strategic collaborations after investment.

By fully leveraging Toyota’s assets—technology, manufacturing expertise, and Woven City—we drive joint business development and provide hands-on support to our partners. Unconstrained by fixed funding timelines, we take a long-term perspective to bring innovations into real-world implementation and help shape the future of mobility. This is the essence of our work.

Work Flow

Investment Strategy

Developing Investment Strategies Grounded in Genchi Genbutsu (Go and see for yourself)

00 Investment Strategy

Genchi Genbutsu

  • i. Go directly to Toyota’s Genba as it transforms into a mobility company, gaining an on-the-ground understanding of the future Toyota’s business units aim to create.
  • ii. Identify the pieces Toyota already has and the pieces it lacks. Discuss with Genba teams how best to address these “missing pieces”—whether through in-house development, collaboration with partners, or other approaches.

Identifying Priority Areas

  • iii. Map Toyota’s existing capabilities and missing pieces to identify priority areas. Toyota Invention Partners (TIP) takes the initiative in supporting areas where investment can accelerate business growth.
  • iv. Provide external insights and broader market perspectives to Toyota’s business units, helping refine and update Toyota’s vision for the future.

Investment Process

Executing investments from a strategic, long-term, and business-oriented perspective

01 Sourcing 02 Execution

01Sourcing

  • i. Based on our investment strategy, we source inventors and partners who share Toyota’s vision for integrating mobility and social infrastructure.
  • ii. In addition to working with external venture capital firms and accelerators, we collaborate with Toyota’s global business operations and corporate venture capital arms—Woven Capital and Toyota Ventures—to identify potential partners worldwide.

02Execution

  • iii. Going beyond the automotive sector, we make strategic investments across a broad range of fields—including logistics, information technology, and energy—and across companies at every stage of growth, from early-stage startups to established businesses.
  • iv. Because the duration of our investment aligns with the timeline of each business collaboration, we do not impose fixed exit horizons like traditional funds. Instead, we take a strategic, long-term, business-oriented perspective and remain committed to building the future together.

Post-Investment Support

Driving strategic collaboration and value creation—from value enhancement to real-world implementation

03 Business Collaboration / Value Creation / Exit

03Business Collaboration / Value Creation / Exit

  • i. Create business synergies through strategic collaboration with Toyota. Unconstrained by fixed investment horizons, we continue supporting our partners through real-world implementation.
  • ii. Going beyond capital investment, we work alongside our partners in the Genba to help drive meaningful results.
  • iii. By leveraging Woven City as a real-world testbed—together with Toyota’s high-quality manufacturing capabilities and technological expertise—we accelerate the path to commercialization.
  • iv. By combining the strengths of Toyota and our portfolio companies, we create new value that has never existed before.

Could you tell us about your career path so far?

Upon joining Toyota Motor Corporation, I was assigned to the finance division, where I was responsible for cash management across Toyota’s global operations, foreign exchange risk management, and financing for overseas business units. I was later seconded to SPARX Asset Management, where I worked on investments in listed equities, renewable energy power plants, and startups. After that, I joined Woven by Toyota and participated in the Woven City Project, where I explored the investment capabilities needed for Toyota’s future businesses. Through this work, I became involved in the launch of Toyota Invention Partners and joined as one of the founding members, where I continue to work today.

What kind of role would you like to play at TIP going forward?

Many people at Toyota are working to deliver new value in cars and mobility to customers and society through the company’s transformation into a mobility company. At the same time, there are many areas where Toyota cannot open up the future on its own. In that sense, I hope to serve as a bridge between Toyota and partner companies that share our vision. By deeply understanding both Toyota’s aspirations and the perspectives of people in the Genba (the actual workplace / where value is created), I aim to become a professional who can connect business and investment to help create new value together.

What does being part of TIP mean to you? And do you have a message for future colleagues?

Toyota aims to produce happiness for all by transforming into a mobility company. The road ahead is not easy, but through my interactions with people in the Genba in manufacturing, development, and sales, I truly believe this vision can be realized. Investment is sometimes seen as a glamorous field, but at TIP we work closely with people in the Genba, doing the hard work needed to bring out more than 100% of their ideas and capabilities. I look forward to meeting new colleagues who share the same passion and who want to change the world together, starting from the Genba.

What kind of role would you like to play at TIP going forward?

At Toyota Motor Corporation, many colleagues are deeply committed not only to our core business but also to the company’s transformation into a mobility company. I believe that by working together with like-minded partners, we can accelerate our efforts to expand the value of mobility in the future. Having experienced both the cultures of Toyota and startups, as well as technology development in each environment, I hope to play a role in creating tangible outcomes through business collaboration and helping drive those initiatives forward.

What does being part of TIP mean to you? And do you have a message for future colleagues?

I think TIP is the best place for me to help shape our future mobility society given my background at both Toyota and startups and my Genba (the actual workplace / where value is created) experience in automobiles, space, and energy-generation facilities. I want to work with colleagues to realize new challenges that can and must be tackled right now. I am looking forward to meeting people who share my passion for connecting players from different cultural backgrounds and pioneering future mobility.

I then worked at a startup developing SaaS products before joining Woven Planet Holdings (now Woven by Toyota). There, I was involved in business planning and strategic investments related to Toyota Woven City. Since 2025, I have been working as a founding member of Toyota Invention Partners.

What kind of role would you like to play at TIP going forward?

Toyota has outstanding employees around the world with deep technical expertise, as well as a wealth of knowledge built through its long history of manufacturing. To build new partnerships, it is essential to continue sharing what makes Toyota strong while also creating relationships where both sides openly share their strengths and challenges and support one another. I see investment as only the starting point. By working closely with partners in the Genba, I hope to serve as a bridge that enables business collaboration and the creation of new value.

What does being part of TIP mean to you? And do you have a message for future colleagues?

What excites me most is the possibility of being right there when an “invention” emerges that could fundamentally transform the future of mobility and the way society works. The desire to travel around the world, build relationships with new partners, and put in the hard work needed to advance strategic investments and collaboration is what drives me in my work at TIP. If you share the vision and mission of Toyota and TIP and want to work together while supporting and trusting one another, we would be delighted to welcome you.
